We will highlight you all the great new features it brings and compare it to Genesis 8. The new Daz Studio 4.15 update <strong>brings us the long-awaited new figures<\/strong>. Sadly, it is not a Genesis 9 update, but a <strong>Genesis 8.1<\/strong> instead. But this is still big news. It is the thing that can be the most important for some &#8211; will the new figure be compatible with your Genesis 8 assets? And the answer to that question is yes. Developers promise that <strong>most of your Genesis 8 assets and content<\/strong> be it clothes, morphs, hair or poses &#8211; everything<strong> should work fine with the new figures.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it is worth mentioning that sadly<strong> 8.1 assets are not backwards compatible<\/strong>. Which means that you can both use male elements on female figures and vice versa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Daz3D Genesis 8.1 Facial Expressions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the coolest things in the new generation is that it<strong> brings big improvements to the facial expressions<\/strong>. Now it is much easier to create detailed <strong>natural-looking expressions<\/strong>. This is thanks to the Facial Action Coding System(FACS) implemented in Genesis 8.1.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we go to the Pose Controls of the Genesis 8.1 figure that is found in the \u201c<em>Posing<\/em>\u201d tab &#8211; we will see there a bunch of <strong>new settings<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"199\" height=\"601\" src=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-facial-expressions.png\" alt=\"daz studio genesis8.1 facial expressions\" class=\"wp-image-5877\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-facial-expressions.png 199w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-facial-expressions-99x300.png 99w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>These are new individual settings for each movement of the face. Genesis 8.1 also has exactly the same presets, but <strong>remade<\/strong> using a new FAC system. Expression looks okay, but it does <strong>look artificial<\/strong>. A feeling of the uncanny valley comes to the user. It looks more like a robot mimicking humans than a real human. But the face on the right from <strong>Genesis 8.1 is much better<\/strong>. It really does look like a real human. Emotions are <strong>not over the top<\/strong> and everything looks natural. Especially the fact that the face is <strong>not symmetrical<\/strong> makes this very believable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall <strong>facial expressions are a lot better<\/strong> in the new generation. They are more<strong> diverse and expressive<\/strong>. The fact that face movement is broken down into individual muscle movement makes it easier to work with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Daz3D Genesis 8.1 Skin and Shaders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let\u2019s talk about <strong>Shaders and Materials<\/strong>. Daz3D claims that they improved materials and <strong>introduced a new PBR shader<\/strong> for skin that should be better. But we did not really see any difference in the comparison image above? That is because the default Genesis 8.1 figure still uses the same shader as the Genesis 8 figures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To find the new shader you need to go to the A\u201d<em>Surfaces<\/em>\u201d tab and find it amongst other Iray Shaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"374\" height=\"611\" src=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-iray-pbrskin.png\" alt=\"daz studio iray pbrskin\" class=\"wp-image-5881\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-iray-pbrskin.png 374w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-iray-pbrskin-184x300.png 184w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-iray-pbrskin-300x490.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Here it is on the right. But before applying it we need to select where it would be applied. Go to the Editor in \u201c<em>Surfaces<\/em>\u201d and <strong>select the Skin<\/strong> preset of your character.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"371\" height=\"624\" src=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis8.1-skin-settings.png\" alt=\"daz genesis8.1 skin settings\" class=\"wp-image-5882\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis8.1-skin-settings.png 371w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis8.1-skin-settings-178x300.png 178w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis8.1-skin-settings-300x505.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 371px) 100vw, 371px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After that you can go back to Presets and apply the Iray PBR skin shader by double clicking on it. Skin is white and bright with no details. But worry not, there is<strong> nothing wrong with the shader or your model<\/strong>. If you return now back to the Editor, you will see that <strong>all the main features of the shader are turned off <\/strong>by default. This includes such important things as Translucency, Bump, Dual Lobe(glossiness) and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"197\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-skin-shader.png\" alt=\"daz studio genesis8.1 skin shader\" class=\"wp-image-5884\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-skin-shader.png 197w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-skin-shader-103x300.png 103w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To try and<strong> fix the problem <\/strong>we simply need to<strong> turn these things on<\/strong>, as they are vital for a good skin shader. After doing that the result is like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis-8.1-skin-comparison.png\" alt=\"daz genesis 8.1 skin comparison\" class=\"wp-image-5887\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis-8.1-skin-comparison.png 1080w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis-8.1-skin-comparison-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis-8.1-skin-comparison-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-genesis-8.1-skin-comparison-850x638.png 850w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And it is already <strong>a lot better<\/strong> than it was. But I would not say that it is better than the Genesis 8 skin. Well this is because<strong> just turning on settings is not enough<\/strong>. You would also need to set them up properly for a really good skin. Small changes already can do better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz3d-genesis8.1-skin-shader-comparison.png\" alt=\"daz3d genesis8.1 skin shader comparison\" class=\"wp-image-5888\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz3d-genesis8.1-skin-shader-comparison.png 1080w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz3d-genesis8.1-skin-shader-comparison-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz3d-genesis8.1-skin-shader-comparison-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz3d-genesis8.1-skin-shader-comparison-850x638.png 850w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>But you really need to <strong>know what you are doing<\/strong> and how in order to create a beautiful skin. Thankfully, there is no need for you to know that. The new 8.1 figures will already <strong>come with this new shader in place<\/strong> and everything set up. Just look at the Victoria 8.1 and her skin. It looks very detailed and realistic, overall gorgeous.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-victoria8.1-skin.png\" alt=\"daz studio genesis victoria 8.1 skin\" class=\"wp-image-5890\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-victoria8.1-skin.png 1080w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-victoria8.1-skin-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-victoria8.1-skin-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-victoria8.1-skin-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/renderguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daz-studio-genesis8.1-victoria8.1-skin-850x850.png 850w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally to updated textures and UVs, there was also one small but very pleasant change. The<strong> vellus hairs have been added<\/strong> for the female face and body, which makes close-up shots that much better. For the <strong>male figures<\/strong> this update should bring<strong> more detailed hair on body and face<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Daz Genesis 8.1 Eyes and Eyelashes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides overall all skin improvements, generation update comes also with the <strong>eyes enhancements<\/strong>. Eye and eye area has been <strong>reworked <\/strong>with new UVs, better optimizations and textures. It can be clearly seen on the comparison how the original Genesis 8 eyelashes are a bit of a random mess that is not detailed at all. While<strong> new eyelashes are clearly better<\/strong>, more prominent and look beautiful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus to everything mentioned above, there is also an absolutely <strong>new geometry added to an eye<\/strong>.
