This article will show you how to render with transparency in Daz Studio. It is really easy and we will explain the render transparent background settings for you.

The main reason for someone to render with transparent backgrounds in Daz Studio is if they intend to use their own backgrounds in post-production. This is definitely not the only case when you would do this, sometimes you just want a transparent picture.

You will see that most of the work is done when you chose to render in Daz Studio, so relax and continue reading.

How to Render Transparent Background in Daz3D

As was already mentioned – you almost don’t need to do anything, as the Iray rendering engine does everything for you. Usually, in most cases – you would just render your scene and save it as .png. That is it. The last part, saving as .png – is very important, because this file format does support transparency, unlike other choices.

To change the file format you should go to the “Render settings” menu and in the “General” tab fine “Image Name”. To the right of that you can open a drop-down menu, where you choose file format:

"daz3d

Alternatively, if you forgot to choose the file format here, you can always change later. This only works if you have your “Render Target” set to “New Window”. After your render finished – you will see it in a new window, where you can change its name and file format:

"daz

It could be possible that you render in Iray, save the result as .png, but the background is still not transparent. This means that some other settings may be changed. Let’s see how to fix that.

First of all, you need to check whether your background is not obstructed. There may be some objects of primitive shapes, such as planes, obstructing the view of the camera. Background should be clear without any objects.

Secondly, you may have HDRI influencing the background. To check that – go to the “Environment” tab still in the “Render Settings” menu and make sure that the “Draw Dome” setting is turned off.

"daz

Also check the “Draw Ground” option. It is not influencing the transparency of background directly, but it creates shadows. And this might not be something that you want.

Finally, if you still don’t have a transparent background – take a look into the “Environment” menu. Open it in the “Window > Panes (Tabs) > Environment” from the top bar. It should look like this:

"remove

In the “Type” you can set it to the “None”, so you would not have any background, thus in render it will be transparent. Or, if you want the “Type” to be “Backdrop” – just make sure to set “Visible in Render” to off. This should work for the task.

Daz3d How to Render Animations With Transparency

To render animations with transparent background in Daz Studio one should make sure that everything said previously is working. Meaning that you have a transparent background when you render a still image.

If you don’t have a transparent background in your animation render – you probably did only one mistake. This mistake is that in the “Render Settings” under “General” you set the “Render type” to “Movie”. This is a mistake, because “Movie” can not be rendered with transparent background and you should change this setting to the “Image Series”

"daz

“Image Series” is a better choice of two anyway. As it has less problems, it is easier to render and even can produce a better quality render overall. The only problem is that you would need some sort of a software to create a video out of an image series, but it is not that hard.

That is all that is different for the animations with translucency. If this did not work for you – double check that everything from the previous section is set correctly for you. Now sit back and watch your render do its work.

Conclusion – Daz3D How to Render With Transparency

It is not hard at all to make a transparent background in the Daz Studio. Program and rendering engine makes everything for you. You just need to allow it and check that you did not change anything. If you had problems with this – this tutorial should have helped you to solve them.
The “Render Settings” menu was mentioned a couple times along the article. If you want to learn more about renders, their settings and how to properly set them up – read our
